The West of Yore Hunt Cross Country Ride Back

Now in its fourteenth year, the Ride has proved immensely popular, drawing riders from all parts of Yorkshire and adjacent counties. Around 300 riders normally take part. The course extends to 10 miles, most of which is on tracks or grass; we try to keep the tarmac to a minimum. The Ride starts and finishes at Lightwater Valley, near Ripon, where there is ample hard standing. There are also loos and refreshment facilities.

There is a short jumping section about half way round the Ride, which can be easily bypassed by those who do not wish to jump. There is also a shorter course of about 5 miles for those horses and riders who are not fully fit. Chris Lax Event Photography, will be on the course to take photographs. If you wish to receive a proof, make sure you fill in your full address on the entry form and that you wear the correct number.

There is no pre-entry and riders should just come along on the day, fill in an entry form, collect a number tabard and go. First riders leave Lightwater at 9.30 am and the last starters leave at 12 noon sharp. The Ride should not take you more than 3 hours, probably less. It is well marked with small arrows.

On completion of the course, you should return your numbers to the entries caravan and collect a rosette.

The organisers make a donation of £1 per entry to a charity. This year we will be contributing to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

All entrants are advised to have insurance against any damage they or their horses may cause. The organisers do not accept any liability for damage to property or injury to persons arising from negligence of riders in this event.
